Flashcards
The Flashcards section is where you build study decks your students can revise from.
::: note Flashcards only appears in the sidebar in Primary School, Secondary School, and University modes — not ECD Center or TVET. Check the Institution Type on the Settings page if you don't see it. :::
Accessing Flashcards
- Click "Flashcards" in the sidebar navigation

Deck List
Each deck card shows its title, a visibility badge, its description, the subject and class it's tagged with (when set), and how many cards it contains.
Visibility Badges
| Badge | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Personal | Private notes only you can see |
| Public | Shared with other teachers |
| Class | Neither Personal nor Public — visible to your class |
The deck list also includes public decks shared by other teachers, not only your own.
If you see "No decks yet", click "Create deck" to build your first one.
Creating a Deck
- Click "Create deck"
- Fill in the deck details
- Add your cards
- Click "Save Deck"
Deck Details
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Deck Title * | Name of the deck, e.g. "Quadratic Equations Practice" |
| Description | What students will learn |
| Subject | Optional classification |
| Class | Optional classification |
| Topic | Optional free-text label |
| Difficulty Level | Easy, Medium, or Hard — the deck's overall difficulty |
| Public Deck | Toggle on to share the deck with other teachers |
| Personal Reference | Toggle on to keep the deck as private notes only you can see |
Public Deck and Personal Reference are mutually exclusive — turning one on switches the other off.
WARNING
The Subject and Class dropdowns currently offer a short fixed list rather than your school's actual subjects and classes. If neither matches what you teach, leave them unset rather than picking the closest option.
Adding Cards
Every deck starts with one blank card. For each card, fill in:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Front (Question) * | What the student sees first |
| Back (Answer) * | The answer, shown when they flip the card |
| Hint (Optional) | A nudge shown before they flip |
| Card Difficulty | Easy, Medium, or Hard for this card specifically — leave unset to inherit the deck's difficulty |
| Card Image (Optional) | Attach a picture to the card |
Click "Add Card" for another blank card, or the bin icon on a card to remove it. A card only counts as valid — and only gets saved — once both its Front and Back are filled in; the Save button shows a running count of valid cards.
Card Images
Click or drag an image onto the Card Image area to attach it. Accepted formats are JPEG, PNG, GIF, and WebP, up to 5MB. Click the X on an uploaded image to remove it.
Saving
Click "Save Deck" (top right or bottom of the page). The button is disabled until the deck has a title and at least one valid card. Saving creates the deck, then adds its cards one by one — a confirmation names the deck and how many cards were created. You're returned to the deck list.
Managing Decks
Editing
Click "Edit" on a deck card to open it for changes.
Deleting
- Click the bin icon on a deck card
- Confirm in the "Delete deck?" dialog
Deleting removes the deck and its cards, and can't be undone.
Best Practices
- Keep cards short — one fact or concept per card is easier to revise than a paragraph
- Use hints sparingly — save them for cards students genuinely get stuck on
- Add images where they help — a diagram is often faster to recall than text alone
- Decide visibility deliberately — Personal for your own notes, Public if you want other teachers to reuse the deck, or leave both off to keep it a class deck
